State BJP averse to alliance with TDP Hyderabad: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to impress upon the national leadership against entering any sort of alliance with the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh.
A detailed report highlighting the Telugu Desam's dismal performances in 50 odd by-elections held in the last five years would also be submitted to the national leadership to support their argument.
BJP leaders hailing from Telangana region including state office-bearers and presidents of ten districts held a meeting at party office here to discuss the Cabinet note on Telangana besides future course of programme.
Much of the discussions centred on BJP strategies for the next general election and reported attempts by the TDP to forge an electoral understanding with the saffron party.
However, there was some difference of opinion on the alliance issue. Barring a few senior leaders, who were in favour of tie-up with TDP, majority leaders expressed their opposition to such move. The saffron party leaders resolved in the end to fight it out single in the coming general elections.
The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to have two separate entities for Telangana and Seemandhra regions much before the division formalities are completed.
Although this proposal was floated several months ago, central leadership of the party delayed taking a decision on this issue until the Union Cabinet approved statehood status to Telangana. Now that big hurdle has been cleared, the state BJP decided to pursue the matter with Rajnath Singh.
The state BJP is of the opinion that setting up two separate units would also facilitate leaders from the two regions to prepare different notes to be submitted to Group of Ministers (GoM) in line with aspirations of people. Telangana leaders also decided to repose faith in G Kishan Reddy to head the Telangana unit.
G Kishan Reddy, Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Bandaru Dattatreya, Dr K Laxman and Nagam Janardhan Reddy took part.
