AP heading towards President rule NEW DELHI: The Centre is most likely to go in for President's rule in Andhra Pradesh, in the wake of worsening law and order situation and inactive administration in the state following the unabated stir by the Seemandhra people and the government employees in the region against Telangana state formation.
A decision to this effect is expected to be taken at the Union Cabinet meeting to be held at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Manmohan Singh, who had a meeting with Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Monday night, voiced concern over the deteriorating conditions in Seemandhra as electricity generation and supply was paralyzed for the third day on Monday. If the stir continues, the southern power grid may collapse, triggering massive hardships to the country's economy.
The Prime Minister was also worried over the cascading effect of the resignations of four Union Ministers ' M M Pallam Raju, K Chiranjeevi, Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy and Daggubati Purandeshwari, who met him earlier. Indications are that the other Seemandhra ministers and MPs, too, might quit creating a crisis situation in the party.
The four ministers told the Prime Minister in no uncertain terms that their continuance in the government had become untenable. On his part, the Prime Minister expressed his helplessness as the Centre had gone too far on the Telangana road and could not retrace its steps.
Dejected by his comments, the Seemandhra Ministers requested him to accept their resignations forthwith. They told him during the meeting that they would not be attending to their duties from Tuesday.
