Desperate Naidu seeks Modi's hand Hyderabad: Notwithstanding the public posturing that it has not taken a decision to go with BJP, the Telugu Desam Party seems to be inching towards an understanding with the saffron party and play an important role in national politics after the 2014 elections.
According to party insiders, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu is understood to be of the opinion that the main fight during the next general elections will be between the TDP and the YSRCP, and hence it will be advantageous for the TDP both in Seemandhra and Telangana region if they sail with the BJP.
While going with the BJP would help the TDP to cash in on the image it has in Telangana region, in Seemandhra the TDP-BJP combine can tilt the scales in urban constituencies like Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Kakinada. The TDP feels that urban areas where the educated and youth population are more, the Modi magic would work wonders for the party.
The TDP feels that since the division of the state appears to be inevitable, they can showcase the manner in which Hyderabad had developed during the TDP regime and promise to put the state into fast forward mode within a fixed time frame.
When asked that whether an alliance would be possible with the BJP ' since senior party leaders like M Venkaiah Naidu and state president G Kishen Reddy had stated that the BJP would not forge any alliance with the TDP ' sources say that a lot many changes would take place in the days to come.
'Politics can never be static,' a senior party leader and politburo member said. According to the TDP, the BJP on its own may not have smooth sailing in Seemandhra region but if it supports the TDP then the results could be different.
The party leaders also say that despite its public posturing, the BJP, too, is searching for new partners as some of its allies like Janata Dal (U) had parted ways, protesting against projection of Modi as the prime ministerial candidate.
