Former DGPs look at spiritual way forward Hyderabad: It may be sheer coincidence, but many retired former directors general of police (DGPs) are turning spiritual recently. After wearing crisp khaki uniforms for decades together, these top cops prefer spending their post-retirement life amid gods, god men and gospels. There may be many reasons for their sudden transformation, but the quest for serving fellow human beings seems to bigger of them.
There are several such officials, but prominent among them is K Aravinda Rao, who retired as the DGP in 2010 has become a scholar on Sanskrit and Vedic scriptures. He has been spending more time on spiritual activities than on any other worldly things.
Aravinda Rao's active participation in the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as its state committee president is well known. Known as a tough cop during his service, Aravinda Rao is presently popular as an exponent of Hindu mythologies and Bhagavad-Gita.
Rao, has penned many articles charity, spirituality and humanitarian service to fellow humans. Aravinda Rao has been delivering speeches at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) too.
Another former DGP who turned spiritual is Pervaram Ramulu, who has been spending more time on studying religious books and attending spiritual discourses. Ramulu who was known as a strict officer when he was in the job is now spending his time in the company of saints and seers.
His attendance in the felicitation of a senior Siddhanti Palakurti Nrusimha Rama Sharma recently is an example to this. Roddam Prabhakara Rao, who retired long ago as the DGP is an active participant in religious and spiritual sphere.
His association with a number of organisations that are connected to classical music, arts and publication houses that promote divinity is known to one and all. As a governing board member of Sri Satya Sai Sanskruti Educaitonal Society in the city, he plays a role encouraging spirituality.
Talluri Suryanaraya Rao, another former DGP has become popular among TTD related circles for his opposition to allowing any non-Hindu religious activities atop Tirumala Hills. He was vocal in condemning the Christian missionaries attempting preaching in the temple town. Rao is also a member of several outfits that strive for promotion of Hindu religious teachngs.
Here is another ex-DGP Swaranjit Sen, who is committed to Christian missionary affairs. He played a major role in the bicentennial of Bible Society of India three years ago, as the president of celebrations committee. Sen is often seen in the Church related groups in the city and he is also associated with many philanthropic services.
