Naidu hopes to play key role again at Centre HYDERABAD: With four state Assembly elections results going against the Congress, Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu has given hints that he would be playing a key role in the formation of the next government at the Centre, after 2014 general elections.
Chandrababu Naidu said the four states Assembly results were an indication that the next government at the Centre would be a non-Congress government and as the TDP had played a major role in forming a non-Congress government at the Centre in the past, this time too it would play a similar role.
'All non-Congress governments at the Centre were formed with the support of the TDP. In the interest of the nation, the TDP had supported various governments at the Centre in the past and this time too, it would see that a stable and corruption-free government is formed,' he remarked.
The Assembly results are an indication that the people of the country do not want the Congress to come to power, he said. 'The Congress had lost the Assembly elections due to its incompetence and rampant corruption. The UPA's wrong policies had affected its performance in the elections,' he said.
'It was the work done by the NDA government that had helped the UPA continue the growth story during its first term and which in turn, helped it to come back to power in 2009. Similarly, in the state too, the good work done by the TDP regime had helped the Congress to get back to power as it continued many good schemes introduced by his government,' he claimed.
'Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit's defeat at the hands of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal is an indication that the days of Congress are over and we should not be surprised if Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are also defeated in the coming general elections. The mood of the nation is such that it wants to overthrow Congress from every state,' he said.
On BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's impact on the poll results, the TDP chief said the Modi factor has also played a crucial role in Congress defeat.
On whether the TDP will go with the Third Front or the NDA, he said it is too early to comment on the issue.'People have lost faith in Congress and do not want it to continue in power,' he claimed.
