Regional divide obliterates party lines HYDERABAD: Normally, issues keep legislators divided on party lines on the floor of the House but Friday saw them aligned or divided, as the case by be, on regional lines.
Ministers from Telangana met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and speaker N Manohar separately and demanded that the bill be taken up for debate immediately. They were supported by fellow TDP, CPI and BJP MLAs who met the speaker and made a similar demand.
On the other hand, legislators from Seemandhra wanted the draft bill returned to the Centre. Minister S Sailajanath and 10 MLAs handed over to the speaker their resolution opposing division. YSRCP members served a separate notice under Rules 77 and 78 seeking nod to table a similar motion.
Meanwhile, revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy said he had told AICC leader Digvijaya Singh that he would oppose the bill. TRS, BJP and CPI leaders gave privilege notice to the speaker against chief secretary PK Mohanty.
Deputy chief minister C Damodara Rajnarasimha and minister K Jana Reddy met their flock to ensure floor coordination and tabling of the bill at the earliest.
Congress leaders from Seemandhra met the chief minister and discussed their strategy to delay debate on the bill. TDP's Payyavula Keshav said Seemandhra legislators would see that the bill was not discussed in the Assembly.
