GHMC lines up ambitious projects for 2014
Hyderabad, Dec 31 (INN): Describing the year 2013 as full of achievements, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has lined up several ambitious projects for the New Year.
Addressing a joint press conference here, GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain and Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the corporation took three major initiatives during 2013. They were Integrated Call Centre, e-Grievance Centre and Praja Vaani. They said that while these programmes were highly appreciated by the Centre, President of India Pranab Mukherjee himself praised the Praja Vaani for its innovativeness.
They informed that as many as 26 lakh birth certificates were issue through Government to Citizen's Centres from 2006 to 2013. They said the about 12 lakh registrations from 1990 - 2005 would be made online in 2014. They said as many as 56,000 birth certificates were issued since June 1.
The GHMC has given Rs 110 Crore - bank-linkage loan to Self Help Groups, trained youth through Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, registered 1,196 for Bangaru Talli scheme, formed 237 new SHGs and constituted 437 SHGs for physically handicapped.
The Mayor informed that more number of multi-skilled training centres would be started soon in the GHMC limits. The modern slaughter house would be made operational in 2014 and unlike all loss making units in the country, it would earn an income of Rs 23 crore per annum. A decision has been taken to construct sports complex at Moghalpura and a swimming pool at Golconda.
Majid Hussain said that the GHMC would take up the development of 56 roads at a cost of Rs 230-400 crore. Further, the GHMC proposed to double its spending on developmental works from present Rs 600 Crore to Rs 1200 crore.
The Commissioner informed that cases might be registered against the department and contractors if they dig up the roads unauthorisedly.
