TRS-Congress merger looks imminent Hyderabad: With the state Assembly sending its views on the AP Reorganization Bill, 2013, to the President, the focus has now shifted to the political moves in Delhi and proposed merger of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) with the ruling Congress.
The TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao is leaving for the national capital on Friday and he is likely to stay put there till the Telangana Bill is passed by the Parliament. During his stay, he will have a series of discussions with the Congress top brass on the future relationship between the two parties.
According to sources, Congress party is going to insist on merger of TRS with Congress in tune with the promise made by KCR in the past. The TRS supremo told the media here that he would be leaving for Delhi on Friday and return only after completion of the constitutional formalities of Telangana State formation.
"I will be leaving Andhra Pradesh but returning to Telangana state," he quipped, exuding a new sense of confidence. Congress General Secretary and in charge of AP affairs Digvijay Singh, while talking to a national television channel, reminded KCR about his promise.
"As far as TRS is concerned, they have assured us that the day Telangana is formed, they shall merge TRS with Congress," Digvijay Sing told NDTV on Thursday.
Sources in Delhi said that Sonia, Rahul are in favour of a merger
Sources in New Delhi said that Congress, particularly its president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, are in favour of a merger as this would benefit the party in the coming general elections.
The TRS chief on several occasions had assured the Congress leadership that he was ready to merge his party for the sake of separate Telangana state. When the merger issue was raised at the press conference on Thursday, KCR said that any decision on merger would discussed only after the bill was passed in the Parliament.
He said that he would meet leaders of various parties including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, BJP president Rajnath Singh and Sonia Gandhi during his Delhi visit. KCR praised Sonia and said that because of her efforts Telangana state was now becoming a reality.
