Modi on mission to bring back Babu New Delhi : BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is all set to restore alliance talks with Telugu Desam Party. To assuage the ruffled feelings of the TDP, Modi would be travelling to the Seemandhra region and hold public meetings there.
Talks between the two parties had earlier suffered a setback when the BJP supported the bill for the creation of Telangana State in both Houses of Parliament.Top sources privy to the recent developments said Modi is likely to reassure the people of the region that if voted to power, the BJP would do its best to ensure justice to the region.
He is also likely to promise some financial sops. Modi may impress upon the Seemandhra people to vote for the BJP and TDP for a better deal post-bifurcation. The BJP leader would pay at least two visits to Seemandhra, it is learnt.
With the Congress gaining an upper hand by declaring the 'special status for Seemandhra', the saffron party needs to highlight that it was due to its pressure that the Centre had extended certain benefits to the region.
Party in-charge for Andhra Pradesh, Prakash Javdekar, indicated this when he said, 'BJP is the only national party which has been consistent in seeking Statehood for Telangana and justice for Seemandhra and we succeeded in our mission.
Had it not been for the BJP, neither would Telangana be created nor would justice be done to Seemandhra.'Sources co-ordinating the talks between the two parties said telephone conversations between the leaders of the two parties have helped to break the ice and Modi would soon be addressing the people of Seemandhra.
The suggestion of visiting Seemandhra and promising a fair deal to the people came from the TDP top leadership. It is learnt that the BJP expressed satisfaction over the plan.
This has helped to put the frozen alliance talks back on the track.Stunned by the BJP's open support to Telangana, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu had strongly criticised the move and indicated that it would be difficult for him to go with the BJP in the upcoming polls.
He had expressed disappointment that the BJP leaders did not raise a single demand for justice to Seemandhra in the Lok Sabha. However, the BJP did argue for a host of facilities and 'compensatory' measures during the debate in Rajya Sabha.
After clinching a deal with Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ram Vilas Paswan, it is now the turn of Naidu, another member of the 'secular' brigade to join Modi's bandwagon.
Since the BJP sees the perceptional benefits of the alliance to be much more significant than the actual votes, it will not let go the opportunity. The party has agreed to the TDP's suggestion to hold public meetings in Seemandhra and woo the people on the promise of justice.
