Friends in need set to be friends indeed HYDERABAD: In what is being seen as a sign of an alliance in the making, the TDP and BJP on Tuesday said 'we are open to a tie-up with any party.'
BJP president Rajnath Singh, who was in the city for the Telangana State formation celebrations, said he cannot rule out a poll pact with any party including the TDP. 'Many political parties are in touch with us and we cannot rule out possible poll alliance with any party,' he remarked.
Sources told that Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, who was also here for the celebrations, told the party's State leaders that 'alliance is a must' and they should 'prepare the cadre accordingly.'
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, on his part, dropped enough hints when he told his party leaders during a teleconference that they should get into election mode and be prepared for alliances.
'Except YSRC, Congress and the TRS, we are game for alliance with other parties,' he said, implying that renewal of ties with BJP is on the cards.
The BJP has been going full steam of late both in Telangana and Seemandhra to mobilise public opinion in its favour. Addressing the massive Telangana State formation celebrations at the Nizam College grounds here, Rajnath stressed that Telangana would have remained a dream, had the BJP not played a key role in Parliament.
'The efforts of Sushma Swaraj are unforgettable,' he said while Arun Jaitley pointed out that BJP's commitment to Telangana was unflinching. At no stage was its commitment found wanting, he added.
But the focus among political circles was centred on the TDP-BJP alliance and whether the two would go to polls together in both Telangana and Seemandhra. BJP State president G Kishan Reddy, who is averse to an alliance with the TDP in Telangana because of Naidu's perceived Samaikyandhra image, has been claiming that the party would fight elections on its own.
The TDP is interested in an alliance with the BJP in Telangana in the hope of gaining from the saffron party's goodwill in the region. In Seemandhra, the situation is exactly the opposite.
