KCR, Jagan put up poor show in LS HYDERABAD: Strange as it might sound, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao had not asked a single question pertaining to problems of his Mahbubnagar Parliamentary Constituency in Andhra Pradesh during his entire five-year stint in the outgoing 15th Lok Sabha.
Not only that, he had not attended even one meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committees. He had recorded a very poor attendance in the Upper House ' just 11 per cent during the last five years. And he had spent just Rs 11 crore on his constituency from the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD funds).
A survey by India Today group revealed that the two MPs from AP did not raise a single question during their five-year stint; Sonia, Rahul, Advani, Mulayam, Deve Gowda were no better.
And it is not just KCR. Even YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, representing Kadapa Parliamentary Constituency, had put up a poor performance as an MP during his five-year tenure.
Of course, Jagan was in jail for more than a year during this period. Though, he, too, did not raise a single question in Lok Sabha, he was a shade better than KCR in attending the Standing Committee meetings (21 per cent) and Parliament sessions (31 per cent). Jagan, however, was equally bad in spending his MPLAD funds ' just Rs 12.5 crore on his constituency.
These interesting facts were brought to light by India Today Group, in association with Satark Nagrik Sangathan (SNS), a Delhi-based citizen's vigilance group led by Anjali Bhardwaj and Delhi-based Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), founded by former IIM-Bangalore dean Trilochan Sastry.
While SNS created a score based on actual performance of MPs in the Lok Sabha, the perception-based scores and ratings were provided by ADR, which conducted a survey among 250,000 respondents spread across 525 Lok Sabha constituencies between December 2013 and February 2014.
What is more interesting is that even Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, veteran BJP leader L K Advani, Samajwadi Party MP Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh also failed to raise even a single question in Lok Sabha during their five-year tenure.
They also fared pretty badly in spending the MPLADS funds. In terms of rankings, Sonia Gandhi stands in 223 position, while Rahul's ranking is as high as 355.Among the MPs from the State, KCR has got 247th rank, while Jagan is in 293th position and BJP president Rajnath Singh stands in 328 position.Among all the States, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat had the most hardworking MPs, while MPs from Assam work the least.
Andhra Pradesh had only six high-ranking MPs and four low-ranking MPs in the outgoing Lok Sabha.Surprisingly, Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Dharmshi Babar from Maval in Maharashtra is the best performing MP in the country. There was not a single MP from Andhra Pradesh in the top-20 MPs of the country.
