Naidu in a fix over MLC seat promises VIJAYAWADA: Nomination of party leaders, who have been denied Assembly ticket, for election to the legislative Council has now become a hot topic among TDP leaders in Krishna district following an assurance given by party president N Chandrababu Naidu.
Naidu, known for doling out such promises to rebel candidates, has assured four leaders of MLC nomination by the party in the district.
According to party sources, former MLC YVB Rajendraprasad, who aspired to MLA ticket for the Penamaluru Assembly seat, Kaikaluru former MLA Jayamangala Venkata Ramana, Muttamsetti Krishna Rao and Bachula Arjunudu are the four who had been promised MLC seat to placate them before elections.
But the big question is how many seats can the TDP win and how many can be offered nomination. Or, is promising the MLC seats just a tactic to appease the rebels to stay out of Assembly elections?
Krishna district TDP general secretary Bachula Arjunudu had been promised Assembly ticket in 2004 and 2009 but was denied both times.
Naidu admitted openly at Machilipatnam in 2009 that injustice had been meted out to Arjunudu by denying him Assembly ticket and promised to make him an MLC. But nothing has been done on that score.
For the current election, his name figured in the list of probable candidates for the Nuzvid Assembly ticket but he was denied the ticket once again. When Arjunudu decided to enter the poll fray as a rebel, Naidu intervened and appeased him with the promise of MLC seat once again.
Naidu had made the same promise to former MLC YVB Rajendraprasad who was denied the Penamaluru ticket. Bode Prasad was made TDP candidate for Penamaluru instead of Rajendraprasad.
Jayamangala Venkataramana was also promised MLC nomination. Now, TDP has left the Kaikaluru seat to BJP as part of alliance. When Venkataramana decided to fight the election as a rebel, Naidu promised to make him an MLC.
Muttamsetti Krishna Rao was declared the party's Avanigadda constituency in-charge but was denied the ticket. When he declared that he would fight the election as a rebel, Naidu placated him with the promise of an MLC seat.
