Naidu new innings with a capital move HYDERABAD: Capital issue of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh is foremost on the mind of Nara Chandrababu Naidu. 'I am going to resolve it at the earliest. We will finalise the new capital for AP soon after the new government is in place. That will be the first step towards rebuilding the State,' Naidu revealed .
Naidu, whose election as Leader of the TD Legislature Party for AP is only a formality, reiterated that he would take oath as CM in Seemandhra though he hasn't yet decided on the place and time.
The Telugu Desam leader's decision to accord high priority to identifying the capital as quickly as possible stems from the promise he made to the people of Andhra-Rayalaseema that he would devote his energies to the development of the residuary state.
At another level, it also eases tensions that could arise on account of operating from Hyderabad, the designated joint capital for the two states for a period of 10 years.
Without revealing his preference for the new capital, Naidu said he would hold wide-ranging consultations and bring about a consensus. He, however, added that a city/town which already has some infrastructure would be ideal as creation of more facilities required for a capital would be easier then.
'We will also make sure that the capital is conveniently located so that people spread across Seemandhra ' from Srikakulam up north to Kurnool ' will have access to it.'
Probably learning from the experience of Hyderabad, Naidu disclosed that he would ensure that growth in Andhra Pradesh is evenly distributed and definitely inclusive.
'We have learnt some lessons from past experiences. I am not going to repeat them. We will make sure that the benefits of growth reach every section of the society.'
In a way, Naidu has already got down to the tasks ahead. He met streams of visitors, many of them party workers, at the TDP headquarters and met officials who made a beeline to his Jubilee Hills residence.
Simultaneously, he began mulling on the teams he needs to have - political/bureaucratic - even as backroom managers started identifying issues that require attention of the new government in Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu was non-committal on the question of joining the NDA government but surely intends to extract the 'maximum' from Delhi for the development of AP.
