Study on for Metro Rail in V'wada, Vizag VIJAYAWADA: Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development Sudhir Krishna has said that feasibility studies for the introduction of Metro Rail service in Vijayawada, Guntur and Tenali region and Visakhapatnam city are being conducted.
He also said that the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTM - UDA) is also examining the development of inland waterways besides improvement of the basic amenities in these cities for sustainable development.
He stressed the need for development of satellite cities in AP on the lines of Noida and Gurgaon.
Sudhir Krishna conducted a meeting with the officials VGTM-UDA, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and other municipalities here.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Sudhir Krishna observed that there is a need for recycling and reuse of garbage and sewerage in the cities. It is the duty of the civic bodies to supply safe drinking water to people, he added.
Replying to a question, he said, 'As there is a proposal for Metro Rail project in the AP Reorganisation Act, we have to study the feasibility of taking up such a project in Vijayawada.'
Sudhir Krishnan said he does not know Vijayawada or a place close to it being chosen for setting up the capital of AP. He, however, said that the ministry would prepare the plans for the capital city.
