City cops to go Scotland Yard way Hyderabad: The ambitious plan of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to take policing to global standards would soon be a reality with both Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates working on introducing a series of reforms that would encapsulate 'Brand Hyderabad' as the core area.
The modernisation would include recruitment of manpower from police constable level to sub- inspector level, creation of a brand new identity in the form of an innovative and novel logo for the city and State cops, introduction of new uniform, procurement of modern vehicles, sophisticated gadgets, Closed Circuit TV surveillance cameras, training of police personnel in personality development and behavioral aspects and establishment of a world class police control room to cater to the needs of the entire State.
According to official sources, the Chief Minister has directed Hyderabad police commissioner M Mahender Reddy and Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand to visit New York and London cities to study modernisation of police force, besides traffic management, crime control and people-friendly policing in those cities.
Both New York Police Department (NYPD) and Scotland Yard Police of London are well-known for ultramodern policing, innovative methods in crime investigation and effective maintenance of law and order. The Chief Minister has proposed to sanction a whopping Rs 460 crore only on strengthening the city police.
Interestingly, it is considered as the second highest budgetary allocation by any State government to its police department after Delhi. 'Apparently, KCR wants to allay the apprehensions that there would be serious law and order breakdown in the Telangana State after bifurcation and that there would be no security to potential investors in the State.
An ultramodern police mechanism with high security systems all over the twin cities and also neighbouring areas would definitely bring a global acknowledgement to the Brand Hyderabad, which would result in massive flow of investments in the coming years,' an official said.
The top police authorities have already formed five special teams to study various aspects related to the modernisation process. The teams have been assigned with various kinds of tasks.
Director General of Police Anurag Sharma held the maiden meeting of the special committees and issued various guidelines to the committee members. The committees are expected to submit their reports in the next couple of days.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said that the process of the modernization of police force would pick up momentum after the submission of the reports of the special teams.
'The prestigious modernization of police force especially Hyderabad and Cyberabad police has begun on a formal note. It involves many important aspects which could be a makeover of the city police,' Additional DGP of the Law and Order Satyanarain said.
He further said that the rejigging of the police force would be a revolutionary step towards the direction of strengthening the police force of the State.
As part of the modernization, the cops of the two commissionerates would be given 1600 Multi-Utility Vehicles (MUV) and 1550 two wheelers. The traffic cops of the entire State would get 30 per cent of their basic salaries as special pay from the State government besides introduction of weekly off systems for all the cops.
