More expressways to come up around Hyderabad

Hyderabad : If Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has his way, all roads and highways in Telangana would 'shine like mirrors' within a year.

During a high-level review meeting on the status of roads in the State, the Chief Minister announced allocation of Rs 10,000 crore at the rate of Rs 1,000 crore to each district for widening and re-carpeting of roads in the State.

He also announced construction of four expressways, like PV Narasimha Rao Express Way, on international standards in Hyderabad. KCR appointed a Cabinet Sub-Committee for a feasibility study and sought an immediate report for calling tenders immediately.

The Committee comprises Deputy Chief Minister Dr T Rajaiah as Chairman and ministers as members include Etela Rajender, T Harish Rao, K Taraka Ramarao, Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Nayani Narsimha Reddy and Jogu Ramanna. The committee was asked to submit a report at the earliest.

Explaining the rationale behind taking up four new express ways in the Hyderabad, the Chief Minister said that people coming from various districts to Hyderabad were made to wait for hours to reach their destinations in the city.

He said that though people reach the outer ring road from cities like Warangal, Karimnagar, Medak and Nalgonda in one and half hour, it was taking two hours to reach their destinations in the city.

KCR said that this situation was leading to traffic problems for those coming from other areas and also to the dwellers of the city. He said that this has prompted the government to take up four express ways like PVNR Express way in the city.

These will traverse people coming from Warangal at Uppal, those from Karimnagar at Jubilee Bus Station, people from Bodhan and Medak at Paradise and those from Nalgonda at LB Nagar respectively, he said.

Accusing previous governments of criminally neglecting the roads adding to chaos and traffic jams in the city, KCR directed the officials concerned to constitute Telangana Rural Roads Development Corporation and construct multi-storied buildings on world standards for parking exclusively in the city.

Expressing concern over the roads with potholes and proving journey to hell, KCR attributed the pathetic condition of the roads to inefficiency of the previous governments.

Due to lack of regular maintenance, the roads became worse, he said, adding that soon works related to new roads, repairs and expansion will be taken up. The CM also directed the committee to focus on the types of roads, including R&B, Panchayat Raj, single, double and bridges connecting people to the City.

The review meeting was attended by deputy chief minister T Rajaiah, finance minister E Rajendar, principal secretaries S Narasinga Rao, V Nagi Reddy, additional secretary Smitha Sabharwal and R&B chief engineer Ramakrishna.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to improve the roads in the districts. He wanted the officials of Hyderabad to build multi storied parking complex to resolve the parking problems in the city.
