AOC Centre completes cycling, parasailing expedition
Hyderabad, Feb 28 (INN): The AOC Centre, Secunderabad has conducted a cycling and parasailing expedition from Tanot (Rajasthan) to Secunderabad, which was the longest cycling expedition of the Southern Command.
After getting this responsibility, the AOC Centre selected among the dynamic, physically robust and most importantly the volunteers from the centre. Thereafter, this team commenced further physical toughening and familiarization with long distance cycling. This expedition was flagged off from Tanot on 7th February which covered the distance of 2,240 Kms in 15 days of cycling with an approx of 150 kms per day though some of the most in hospitable terrain and adverse road conditions by crossing major places like Jaisalmer, Barmer, Tharad, Chitrod, Dharangdhara, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Kamrej (Surat), Talasari, Mumbai, Pune, Indapur, Solapur, Homnabad and reached AOC Centre, Secunderabad after crossing five states on 27th February.
The team covered a remarkable distance of 196 Kms in just less than 12 hours of continuous cycling. This team had 20 cyclists comprising of 2 officers, one JCO and 17 other ranks lead by the team leader Colonel Deven Bhardwaj. As part of the expedition, the team conducted parasailing at various places like :- Barmer, Dharangdhara, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Pune for NCC Cadets and School children to generate interest for parasailing as an adventure sport. The motto of this cycling and parasailing expedition was to foster the spirit of extreme adventure sports in the country. Through this expedition, Army successfully generated enthusiasm among the youth to join the Armed forces, according to a press release.
