GHMC to extend Rs 5 meal scheme to 100 centres Hyderabad, April 3 (INN): GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation proposes to expand the Rs 5 meal scheme to 100 centres during the current financial year.
He was speaking after the inauguration of 23rd Centre near Satyam Theater at Ameerpet on Friday by Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. He said that the response to the Rs 5 food scheme launched by GHMC last year has been encouraging. In the 2015-16 GHMC budget, corporation has earmarked Rs 20 crore for establishing 100 food centres. The Rs 5 food scheme offers hot and hygienic meals for poor and needy. In the last one year Rs 5 meal has been provided to nearly 13 lakh people. The GHMC is the only corporation in the country which has taken up this innovative scheme to help poor and needy. Presently, 22 food centres are operating in the GHMC limits wherein about 8,000 people are taking lunch in different parts of the city.
Later, the minister, along with GHMC Special Officer and other officials inspected different areas of Sanathnagar constituency. They inspected the works at Balkampet, Fathenagar, BK Guda Park, Sanathnagar Market and other places.
Talasani and Somesh Kumar also visited the Ameerpet Gurudwara and paid obeisance to Guru Granth Sahibji. They were presented with ''Siropas'' and shawls.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Yadav said that state government was striving hard to develop the Hyderabad on par with international cities.
