Pushkarams to be "Plastic free" Hyderabad, May 8 (INN): A mass awareness campaign should be taken up through media and all the departments on 'Plastic Free' throughout Godavari Pushkaram-2015 event, to spread awareness among the pilgrims on prevention on plastic pollution and encourage steps to be taken up to reduce impact on the environment, Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said.
The Chief Secretary held a meeting with Service Departments to review on the arrangements to be made during Godavari Pushkarams-2015. He opined that we may request the pilgrims by discouraging them on the use of bio non-degradable plastics viz., plastic bottles, glasses, plates, sachets etc., Simultaneously awareness campaigns will be taken up at all destinations during Pushkarams to make the spots spick and span. These lines may also be projected repeatedly in all the review meetings of Pushkarams to be held in future, by any of the Departments.
Action plans of Service Departments and responsibilities of all the Departments were also discussed and they were asked to prepare pert charts on progress of works and activity-wise blue prints.
The Chief Secretary issued instructions to the Transport Department Officials for providing pilgrim mobility stations, operation of free buses at Rajahmundry town, improvements of facilities at major bus station in twin-districts and to easily identifying the Swimmers at Ghats they may be provided with ID Cards, Uniform with logo and hospitality for the Swimmers may also be arranged by the Fisheries Department.
Krishna Rao has also informed for providing hygienic toilets, drinking water, food, sanitation, medical attendance, swimmers and ensuring waiting shelters and requisite infrastructure near all the Ghats and temples nearby Ghats and NGOs may be involved for service during Pushkarams.
Senior Officers J.S.V. Prasad, Poonam Malakondaiah, Ramsankar Naik, N.V. Ramana Reddy, Vijayanand, Harish Kumar Gupta and others attended the meeting.
