KV Rao Scientific Society's Awards presented


 
Hyderabad, May 24 (INN): DR. K.V. Rao Scientific Society ,which is involved in promotion and encouragement of young students in pursuit of science and research, presented its 15th Annual Science Awards in a function held till late Saturday night at IICT Auditorium at Tarnaka.

The Society developed a theme 'Friendship with Science'. The awards function was marked by cultural evening which showcased how science can be understood through various media, be it dance, skit or toys. A short program 'Integration of Science and Art' and 'Fun with Science Toys' were also held.

The Awards were presented in several categories which include School Talent Awards; Science Quiz Awards; 'SPARK' Science Fair Awards; Science Debate Awards, Young Scientist Awards.

Dr. Sourav Pal, Director of CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Director of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad graced the function. DR. Sourav Pal gave a Memorial Oration

The Science Quiz awards which are conducted for school children of VIII to XII were bagged by E Sai Nived, K. Chandra Lalita, Pranav Mihir Kandada and Arjun S Kallpur. The winners received Rs 4000/-(Four Thousand) each and runner up team members got Rs 3000/- each. 800 students have participated in the event.

School Talent Awards conducted in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science and Technology(APCOST) too were presented. A merit certificate and a Scholarship of Rs 5000/- per annum till schooling was given to Shaik Muzammil Pasha, B. Suma, A. Hari Sri Jayanth, Ch Vishnu Priya, L. Geethika Patnaik and T Divya.

SPARK ' Awards for Science Fair was conducted for over 90 teams from Telangana, A.P, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Total of six awards are being given in two categories, Category I (7th to 9th Class) and Category II (10th to 12th Class). Top three teams were given away cash prizes of Rs.10,000/-, Rs.7.500/- and Rs.5,000/- respectively in each category..

These winners of APAR include N. Ahladita and JV Mdhana Team; A Manasa and S. Sathya Veni team; K. Tarun Reddy and G. Vishal Baradwaj and B. Snehit Reddy Team; P. Dheeraj and Ayush Chauhan Team; Mohammad Nasear Ahmed, V. Roshan Raju, Prashanth Nikhi Team; S. Dharun Kumar, J. Mothilal Rathnam, S. Saravanan Teams bagged the awards.

A unique program Science Debate which was started this year. Where students from three different schools were invited to participate. Anjan Sriahri, S. Abhinav Team; Anindhya Jha, K. Nikhil Kumar were presented awards. 50 students attended the debate competition. Winners were suitably awarded with cash prizes.

Anindhya Jha and K. Nikhil Kumar bagged for being the Best Speaker Runner Up and Winner respectively in Science Debate Best Speaker Category.

Research Awards are given each year to Young Scientist of below 30years of age in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. These awardees include K Ambika, B. Pradeep, Kuladeep Rajamudili; Ahin Roy; K Kamali; Jaya Krishnan, K. Venkat Raghavan, Preethi Sheshadri, J. Deepa, M. Madhumala, A. Srinivas, Manish Kumar Mishra, M. Sreekanth. More than 90 research students from various research institutes and organisations applied for the awards this year. Winners in each category were given rupees twenty thousand and other selected research students got Rs. 10,000/- each.
