All sub-standard colleges will be de-affiliated Hyderabad, June 13 (INN): Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday warned that all engineering colleges, which does not meet the standards set by the authorities, would be de-affiliated.
Speaking about inaugurating the Golden Education Fair 2015 at Nizam College Grounds here, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Telangana Government would not compromise on the quality and standard of higher education. He said all colleges must fulfill the prescribed norms in order to continue their operations in the State. Else, he said that the government would not hesitate to order their closure.
Kadiyam said that several colleges were started after the introduction of fee reimbursement scheme by the previous government. However, those colleges did not maintain the standards and the students they produced remained unemployable. Citing examples, he said each management owned four to 11 colleges and none had faculty, laboratory or library facilities. He clarified that the State Government had no intentions to target private colleges. However, it cannot allow the standard of education in Telangana to fall further.
The Deputy CM directed the college managements to hire best faculty and improve their lab and library facilities. He said that the Telangana Government was planning to link the colleges with industries.
Kadiyam also informed that the engineering classes would commence from July 21. Although the classes should begin from August 1, as per the directions of the Supreme Court, steps were taken to begin the classes at the earliest
He also praised the Golden Education Fair 2015, wherein 150 engineering colleges have installed their stalls. He said that the parents would get an opportunity to pick the best college for their wards.
Kadiyam also informed that the Telangana students would get 60% of seats in NIT Warangal. Of 740 seats, Telangana students will get 370 seats while the rest will go for Andhra Pradesh student. He said it was due to the effective representation by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that the Centre has rejected AP's claim on 50% of seats in NIT-Warangal.
