Flower show at Pushkarams Rajahmundry, July 16 (INN): Kadiyapulanka near Rajahmundry is famous for its flowers and nurseries and when Godavari Pushkarams are celebrated, it is obvious that they use the opportunity to showcase their products.
Among the eight stalls set up at Arts College grounds as part of flower and horticulture show, seven are from Kadiapulanka. The exception being Ravi Gardens from Bapatla which exclusively displayed bonsai desert rose plants.
There are over 1,000 nurseries in Kadiapulanka of which close 500 are large and others medium and small. They export flowers and plants to all over the country and also abroad. About 15 varities of rose plants are on exhibition-cum-sale at the first stall with each plant sold at Rs.30. They are sent in containers to other states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Chattisgarh and also to foreign countries like Malaysia, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. A rich variety of decorative plants including multi-colour narrow leaf plants are on display.
However, not all stalls sell their ware since transportation to the place is difficult. "When we sell off plants, it is difficult to immediately replace them. But the show should go on and therefore we refrain from selling," said an exhibitor.
The stall owners have also showcased their decorative skills.
Flowers like red, white and yellow coloured chrysanthemum were decked upon a huge 15-foot Siva linga which has creeper plants at the base. Another flower ring was also coming up at the enclosure. S. Kameswara Rao, the architect, said they were accepting flower decoration orders also locally and from outside for events such as marriage sand social functions.
