HPSC on Smart Cities holds first meeting


 
Hyderabad, July 28 (INN): First meeting of the High Powered Steering Committee (HPSC) on Smart Cities was held on Tuesday in the Chambers of Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary I.Y.R.Krishna Rao.

The Chief Secretary and Chairman of the Committee has reviewed on the methodology and evaluation adopted by the State for short listing of Potential Candidate in the Smart City Challenge.

Krishna Rao informed that the Government of India (GoI) have launched the Smart City Mission for improving the quality of life and for attracting people and investment to the cities. It is mandatory to perform the activities in two stages as per the guidelines of the Smart City.

To shortlist their potential candidate smart cities on the basis of Smart City Challenge with the conditions precedent and scoring criteria and place it for review at the HPSC. The highest scoring potential candidate Smart Cities as recommended shall be furnished to Government of India by end of this month.

After receipt of the proposals from the State by the Government of India, it will confirm and announce the list of Smart Cities. These selected cities will then prepare Smart City Proposal (SCP) by engaging reputed consultants. The State Government will finalize and send these SCPs to Government of India within the stipulated time as announced by the GoI.

After receipt of proposals from the State Government, the potential candidate Smart Cities will be evaluated by a panel of national and international experts, organizations and institutions at the national level and will be picked up for the Smart City Mission initially. After finalisation the selected cities have to create a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for implementation of Smart City Programme, Chief Secretary said.

In the first stage, the Government of India has indicated three smart cities for Andhra Pradesh State. The Government of Andhra Pradesh is focusing to develop 13 Municipal Corporations as Smart Cities in all the Districts in the State, Chief Secretary added.
