Hyderabad Traffic cops get body worn cameras Hyderabad, Aug 14 (INN): Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy launched 'Body worn Cameras' for the traffic officers at a function held at Hyderabad Police Commissionerate at Basheerbagh here on Friday.
This 'Body worn camera' will enable socially desirable behavior by traffic officers and public during their interaction. The body worn camera is user friendly, having stud moving clip for wearing on the body and simple one click record. Citizens can notice the recording on the front facing 2.5 inch LCD Screen. Video quality is Retrievable 1080p HD and on-board video playback. Protected files and Encrypted log of events, makes it free from manipulations.
This project has been started in August 2014 on pilot basis by issuing few 'Body worn Cameras' to the traffic officers. After success, 100 new 'Body worn Cameras' were acquired by Hyderabad Traffic Police to monitor the Traffic Enforcement system.
In the conventional practice of enforcement, there were many incidents of arguments /assaults/misbehaving between the commuters and cops. Subsequently, when it came to the other end of the table, there was no evidence on record to establish the guilt. This badly ruined the image of city traffic police.
Keeping in view of the above cited, 'Body worn Cameras' have been procured and issued to the front line officers for the first time in India. The main motto of 'Body Worn Cameras' is people friendly approach of enforcing officer to the traffic violators. This would be a boon in developing citizen friendly policing in Hyderabad city.
