GHMC gets 145 PHCs under 'Smart City' project Hyderabad, Sept 16 (INN): With the selection of Hyderabad as 'Smart City', the National Urban Health Mission has sanctioned 145 Urban Primary Health Centres to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to expand the health services to the citizens, informed GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar.
To the already existing 112 UHPSs, steps are being taken to provide another 33 new UPHCs in the GHMC limits. To provide better health services, a meeting was held with Budhha Jyothi Prasad Director, National Health Mission, Naveen Mittal, Special Commissioner, GHMC along with the various consultancies. As per the norms, the GHMC is establishing another 33 UPHCs and also taking steps to provide better services in all 145 centres, said Somesh Kumar.
The National Urban Health Mission has released Rs. 23.23 Crores for the Year 2014-2015 for maintenance of Health centres and sanctioned Rs.64.54 Crores for the year 2015-2016. The GHMC is also planning to provide six mobile health vans to the citizens. A survey is being planned to get the opinion from the citizens on performance of UPHCs to provide better Medical Health Services and there is a proposal to extend the health services up to 8 PM.
The City Health Society is planned to bring the basic facilities and various health departments under one umbrella for better services with GHMC Commissioner as its Chairman.
There are 1,149 Asha workers and 699 ANM in GHMC area and they are being provided with Tabs to get data health, diseases, local conditions, patients details so that the health services can be enhanced accordingly. There is a proposal to give on pilot basis some of the Health Centres are given to the private agencies to provide quality of health services to the public.
