Urvasi Sarada gets NTR Award Hyderabad: The State Government on Monday announced the Film Awards for the year 2010. Veteran character Actor M. Balaiah was chosen for the Raghupati Venkaiah award, the state's highest award in Cinema. Actress B Sarada, familiarly known as Urvasi Sarada was shortlisted for the prestigious NTR Memorial National Award.
A special committee constituted by the AP Film, Theatre and Television Development Corporation comprising film personalities G Adiseshagiri Rao (Chairman), Thammareddy Bharadwaja and others shortlisted the winners.
Led by the Information Minister D K Aruna, the committee members met the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at Secretariat on Monday and briefed him about their final selection. Once CM gave his nod, the list was released to the media in the evening.
Sarada would get Rs.5 lakh prize money, memento and a special citation for bagging the NTR National Film Award. Likewise for his lifetime achievements and contributions to the Telugu Film Industry, M Balaiah, the winner of the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award would be given Rs.2 lakh prize money.
The other winners are Director B Narsing Rao (BN Reddy National Film Award) who gave critically acclaimed movies like Maa Bhumi, Dasi, Maa Vooru, Rangula Kala. AVM Saravanan (Nagireddy Chakrapani National Film Award) and Producer Edida Nageswara Rao (Special Jury Award).
These awards would be presented at a function to be held in Lalitha Kalathoranam on the eve of Ugadi Festival (March 23). Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Ministers and Film Personalities are expected to attend the programme.
