Crime in films, filmwalas in crime
Hyderabad: Crime maybe the essential element in films Tollywood, Bollywood or any wood that can be cut.
If it is in the story part, things are fine, but if people of the industry are involved then the issue runs on the serious track.
Things are hushed up to a large extent and there are experts, nay, event managers to settle the issue or what is precisely called settlement.
When things go beyond the settlement purview or happen in public glare then there will be some slur as happened in the Saif Ali Khans' case recently the wound takes some time to yield. Salman Khan and some others have suffered it earlier.
Sanjay Dutt was exonerated after a long time despite his father and sister being Congress MPs and he having a large following.
He mellowed down after the incident and started playing soft roles and the Munna Bhai series, second of which was praised by Prime Minister himself otherwise he was happy playing Kalnayak type of roles.
Latest in the list in Madhur Bhandarkar, who is facing charges of rape. Bhandarkar, who comes from the Ram Gopal Varma school, is charged with raping Preeti for nearly five years under the pretext of casting her in his films.
This could be a common thing, had the girl did not go to court. We know young girls swarming popular directors, irrespective of their age and vice versa, but that is no crime unless reported, brought to trial and proved.
We have the famous shooting case in our Tollywood involving a top actor, a producer and an astrologe. Strangely it was managed and the people who were shot at denied that they were hit by the actor.
There was death under suspicious circumstances in the very same house and things were again managed. Someone made noise and went to court but he soon fell silent.
There are other cases of road rage, assault and the like but went unnoticed. A couple of young stars were held for drunk and drive and drugs made some clamour and as always a foreign national was involved for peddling.
Cases against Mohan Babu and Mahesh Babu were registered for assault and went the usual way. For whatever reason Pawan Kalyan's divorce case in Vizag attracted huge publicity so was Chiranjeevi daughter's love marriage.
A rape case was filed against SP Balasubrahmanyam's son and it went on the usual lines. That is how crime and films go together.
