Upasana sweating it out in the gym

Hyderabad: With hardly two months left to go for the big day, Tollywood's most talked about bride at the moment, Upasana Kamineni, is getting all geared up. Training with fianc' Ram Charan Tej's trainer's friend, Upasana has been sweating it out for about a month now.

Says Kiran Dembla, who co-owns a gym with Laxman Reddy (Charan's trainer) and supervises Upasana's sessions, 'She is a very dedicated person. That reflects in her work both at the hospital and in her workout sessions.

Naturally, everybody needs a push and it takes a lot of discipline to exercise regularly. But Upasana has been very sportive and active. She's in fact slimmed down a bit.'

Laxman Reddy, who is a professional body-builder himself and won the Mr World title in 2010 is a celebrity in his own right. He recently trained Rana Daggubati and is responsible for his shiny new six pack body.

Currently working with groom Ram Charan, the muscle-man is shaping him up for his Bollywood debut in the remake of the 1973-Amitabh Bachchan movie Zanjeer.

'Charan naturally has a good body. He's been working out and maintaining himself regularly. I'm going to help him beef up. A very hard working person, Charan is very down-to-earth and the one month that I've spent training him has been really nice,' shares Laxman.

Laxman Reddy himself is now gearing up for the Muscle Mania competition that will take place later this year. Besides training himself, the sportsman is also looking at sending his business partner and friend, Kiran Dembla for the Women's category under fitness in the same competition.

Upasana Kamineni has been so impressed by their services that she has invited them to take over the gym she's setting up at the Apollo Hospital.

'We got the letter just 10-15 days ago. We're really thrilled to be associated with the gym meant for celebrities at the Apollo hospital,' exclaims Kiran.

Ram Charan too is so impressed with the duo that he has apparently recommended the trainers to his 'Racha' co-star Tamannaah Bhatia.

'Charan said he'd tell Tamannaah to come to us too. At the moment we're just happy by the way things have turned out because we've struggled really hard to be where we are now,' explains a visibly happy Kiran.

Laxman along with Kiran runs the gym Sweatzone in Begumpet. Talking about the sport in India, Laxman points out, 'Bodybuilding is something that isn't encouraged in our country.

It's an expensive sport and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has a family dependent on him, unless of course he is a very rich person.

People don't realise that exercising is an important aspect of life. While body building is one side of it, at least one hour of physical activity is necessary for a healthy living.'

Comparing India to countries like the US, he regrets the lack of sponsors. 'Private corporate companies need to sponsor such events.

Any help is always welcome. I remember, during my starting days, there used to be a meat shop that sponsored my chicken. These little things went a long way for me.'

A cost-intensive sport, factoring in training costs, food and supplements, a body builder will have to invest up to Rs 80,000 a month to begin with. 'That's just for someone who is starting off.

There are supplements to be taken, protein rich-diet, fruits and so on. I used to eat three kilograms of fish for the proteins.

Each kg costs up to Rs 700. On a daily basis itself, you end up spending around Rs 4000 like that!' reveals Laxman.
