RGV back with 'Department' Hyderabad: After his last film 'Not A Love Story' (as a director), Ram Gopal Varma is back with his latest project 'Department', which hits the screens today.
The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Rana Daggubati, Madhu Shalini and Nathalia Kaur, with both the ladies making their debut in Bollywood. However, earlier Rana's role was being played by Junior Bachchan.
Ask RGV about the same and he explains, 'Abhishek had some date problems and so we decided to do some other film together. That's when I approached Rana for the role.'
'Department' is based in Mumbai and deals with the conflicts in the police department. And, RGV has used a novel technique in the film, which he believes will not fail.
'I have used 5-6 cameras to shoot my actors in different angles. However, I think that the story of a film and the technique used are independent of each other,' believes Varma.
Ever since 'Department' was in news, the male actors and Nathalia have been the topic of discussion.
However, Telugu-Tamil actress Madhu Shalini, who makes her debut in Bollywood through this film, plays a powerful character. She's a gansgter in the film and also has a fight sequence with Rana.
'Once I read the script of Department, I jumped to the offer of essaying the role of a gangster because I have never done such a role before. I have a lot of powerful lines, and also have a fight sequence with Rana,' reveals the actress.
Actor Rana Daggubati is all smiles as his second Bollywood film, Department releases today. 'I would like to say that it's my fifth film,' he smiles and clarifies.
Rana, who plays the role of an honest and clean cop in the film says it's a dream come true to be working with RGV, and veteran actors like Big B and Sanjay Dutt.
'I have grown up watching their films, so talking to them and working with them was an incredible learning experience for me,' says the actor.
Post Department, Rana has many other movies on his plate. 'Currently I am shooting for 'Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum'. Apart from that I am doing a bilingual with Tamil director Selvaraghavan, and a Hindi film,' he shares.
With a host of movies on this agenda, how does Rana manage to make time for the woman in his life? To which he smiles, 'She understands because of the kind of industry I come from."
Elaborating further on his love life, without revealing the name of his mystery girl, Rana says, 'I started dating her in the beginning of this year. Now we are just trying to work things out with my busy schedule. Once something gets concrete, I will reveal her name.'
Nathalia Kaur, who will be making her debut in Bollywood with an item number in Department, says that the dance was a Herculean task for her, but she managed it with hard work and dedication.
'I have never danced before in my life,' she reveals, adding, 'The song is a very Marathi song and I had to practice a lot in those few days of rehearsal.'
Nathalia, who is often referred to as RGV's discovery, has actually done a Kannada film before Department.
'I will be acting in a Hindi film with RGV, opposite Rana,' reveals the model-turned-actress, who is taking spoken Hindi lessons.
