Director KSR Das passes away Hyderabad: Regarded as the pioneer of Cowboy films in Telugu, veteran film director KSR Das, 76, died in Chennai on Friday.
He worked as director for about 99 films and he hailed from Nellore district. He directed Telugu, Kannada and Hindi movies.
Born on January 5, 1936, he made his debut as a director with a thriller Loguttu Perumallakeruka, which was released in 1966. Sobhan Babu and Rajasri played the lead in the movie.
The combination of KSR Das and Hero Krishna proved to be a money spinner at the Box office especially the Cowboy genre films.
He directed about 30 films with Krishna, starting with Takkari Donga Chakkani Chukka (1969), produced by YV Rao.
His Mosagallaku Mosagadu (1971), a remake of the Hollywood blockbuster of the 1969 Mackenna's Gold, became a trendsetter in Indian films and was dubbed into many languages.
