Barfi pushes out Eega from Oscar race
Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ileana starrer 'Barfi' entered Oscar battle field and will try to get Oscar for India. Film Federation of India announced its representation after eminent panel watched many high profile films like like Eega(Telugu), VazhaKu En 18/9 (Tamil), 7aam Arivu(Tamil), Deol(Marathi), Aakashinte Niram(Malayalam), Barfi(Hindi), Dirty Picture(Hindi), Ferrari Ki Sawaari(Hindi), Gangs of Wasseypur(Hindi), Heroine(Hindi),Kaahani(Hindi) and Paan Singh Tomar (Hindi) before arriving at the final decision. The preliminary screening went ahead in Hyderabad.
Barfi is a romantic comedy which won the hearts of critics and movie lovers alike. The film revolves around differently-abled -- a deaf and mute boy and an autistic girl.
Southern seductress Ileana made her Bollywood debut with the film. Rajamouli's Eega which attracted everyone's attention lost out to Barfi in the final race.
Manju Bora, the chariperson of the jury which nominated Barfi, said, 'After watching 20 films from various languages, we have chosen Barfi as the official entry to Oscars from India.
We believe that it represents Indian cinema and Indian culture in the right sense. More than anything else, it has a great story laced with human emotions'.
