When Damarukam turns dumb Nagarjuna's socio-fantasy flick 'Damarukam' turned dumb once again much to the shock of movie lovers. Even Nag's fans seething with rage attacked and vandalised threaters in a few parts of the state. They are equally angry with their hero and film makers on taking them for a ride announcing so many release dates. The film which was slated for release today, was deffered at the last minute.
Now no one is talking about the film, its star cast or the music of Devi Sri Prasad or Charmi's item number. They are left wondering whether the film will see the arc lights at all. Buzz is Damarukam film makers need 13crs for its release.
The word confusion is turning out to be synonymous with Nagarjuna-starrer 'Damarukam' which for the second time has not met the release date on Saturday after failing to meet the initial planned date of November 9 thus leading to confusion in film circles and among ardent Nagarjuna fans.
The release date of the film was played with many times last month. It was during the last leg of September that RR Movie Makers, the production house, said that the film will be releasing on a grand note on October 12, but the production house couldn't live up to it.
Nagarjuna has also expressed his displeasure over the release during the same time, but was promised by the producer Venkat that it indeed will arrive on October 19. However, after Pawan Kalyan's 'Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu' opened to positive talk on October 18, 'Damarukam' was postponed from October 19 without any announcement regarding its further release date.
While the initial hiccups regarding release date were attributed to the extensive VFX in the film, sources in the industry hint at that the production houses pending dues to the financiers. It is also said the film which has crossed between ` 40 to 45 crore in terms of budget is not capable of recovering the invested money; hence RR Movie Makers who are also into distributing played the safe bet by giving away the area-wise distribution rights to second parties.
On the flip side, Nagarjuna's fans unhappy with the way the film has seen numerous postponements showed their anger by destroying the furniture and glasses of theatres in places such as Tirupathi and Vijayawada. The attacks of fans hold prominence as Nag is never known to back down from a challenge when it comes to releasing his films on time.
At the same time, people who were eager to watch the VFX drama all over AP were disappointed after coming to know the film has been postponed once again on Saturday.
Most screens were rushed to screen other recent releases such as 'Rebel' and 'Gabbar Singh' to meet the regular cine viewers. While media tried to reach out to RR Movie Makers office, no official from 'Damarukam' team couldn't be traced for a word.
'Damarukam's release date has also affected films like 'Krishnam Vande Jagudgurum', 'Bus Stop' and 'Thuppaki'. All the three films have completed their censor formalities and were raring to go for a release on November 9 but knowing 'Damarukam's mega release plans, they had to be pushed to later part of November.
However, cashing in on 'Damarukam's' no-show at the theatres, producer Bellamkonda has decided to pitch his production 'Bus Stop' from Saturday evening. The centres which were to screen 'Damarukam' are planning to replace it with the youthful 'Bus Stop' from today.
Meanwhile, many in the fraternity feel that it's high time that 'Damarukam' team which already witnessed actress Anushka disowning the film gets its act together so that other films in line besides enthusiastic fans who resorted to online bookings of the film for the second time in a row, won't be hurt anymore.
