Tammareddy in race for APFDC chairman post The battle is on for the position of chairman of the AP Film, Theatre and TV Development Corporation and it is all set to take a political turn, fuelling rivalries and forming divides.
After G Seshagiri Rao demitted the office in 2007, the institution has remained without a formal head and only IAS officers have been holding the fort.
But now that the Congress has decided to make appointments to the nominated posts, it has caught a lot of people's fancy.
Among those eyeing the post are AP Film Chamber president Thammareddy Bharadwaj, strongly backed by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Information and public relations minister DK Aruna too favours Bharadwaj as he happens to be in her good books.
But union minister of state for tourism Chiranjeevi is using his new-found clout at the Centre to push the name of Edida Nageswara Rao, film producer of Shankarabharanam fame, for the post.
But as Nageswara Rao is over 75 years old, sources say the party leadership in Delhi is unlikely to be enthused about his appointment.
The third man in the fray for the chairman post is Seshagiri Rao, who want to head the corporation again.
As actor Krishna's brother, he is making efforts through various channels to get renominated but with Kiran Kumar favouring Bharadwaj, his prospects look bleak.
