Tollywood protests against service tax The Telugu film industry has come together against service tax imposed by the Central Government. Several film and TV personalities took to the streets in Hyderabad and staged a protest in front of the Film Chamber against the levy of service tax on entertainment industry.
The demonstrators alleged that the 12.36 % service tax would put an additional burden on them as they are already paying several taxes levied by the State Government.
Movie Artistes' Association (MAA) president Murali Mohan, Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce (APFCC) president Tammareddy Bharadwaja, Directors' Association president Shankar, veteran producers D Ramanaidu, Allu Aravind, 'Dil' Raju, actors D Venkatesh, Jagapathi Babu, Suneel, Nani, Tanish, Ali, Brahmanandam, Venu Madhav, Tanikella Bharani, Rao Ramesh, Vijayachander, Sivaji Raja and others participated in the dharna.
Following this, the work in Telugu entertainment industry came to a halt on Monday including shootings of several films and TV serials.
