Let me be an artiste: Kamal HYDERABAD: The past one month has been taxing for actor Kamal Haasan ' his film Vishwaroopam was banned in Tamil Nadu after a section of Muslim organisations protested against its release.
However, the struggle came to an end and the film finally made its way to the screens recently.
To celebrate the same with the who's who of Tollywood, Haasan made a stop in the city. The occasion was graced by various supporters of Haasan and his Vishwaroopam.
Some of them included veteran director K Vishwanathan, D Ramanaidu, Dasari Narayana Rao, Nagarjuna, Ramesh Prasad, directors Trivikram Srinivas and S S Rajamouli, and actor Prabhas.
While everyone present at the success meet were all praise for Haasan and his dedication, Haasan was humility-personified and was grateful to everyone for their support.
He began, 'I started as an actor in the film industry for Rs 250 and back then I always thought that I would be a technician because I wasn't cut out to be an actor. But, as I continued to act and experiment, the industry supported me and kept me alive.
If I had stopped at that Rs 250, I wouldn't have come this far.' And, with the kind of cinema Haasan has delivered so far, everyone indeed is thankful that he did not stop at Rs 250.
The actor - director believes that the Vishwaroopam-hurdle helped his family grow bigger.
'My family not only includes my brother or my children ' it also includes all the people who supported me throughtout the struggle and throughout my career,' he added.
When asked as to how he felt in the past one month of struggle, Haasan shared, 'It was definitely a struggle for me, but I did sleep well a few nights because of the support I received from everyone in the industry and the media. I, honestly don't feel anger ' but I feel sad.'
Given the controversy that became his movie, Haasan also felt the need to insist on the fact that he is simply an artiste and not a politician.
'I am not a politician. I feel sad that an artist has been insulted because artists can't create riots. Artists can do wonders in solving problems. So, I repeat that I am not a politician and let me be an artiste,' he stressed.
And, on a concluding note, the actor added that they are working on the post-production of Vishwaroopam 2 with a smile, conveying that all's well that ends well.
