Ram Charan's B'Day bash to fans Actor Ram Charan Tej is a busy man these days shuffling between Mumbai and Hyderabad as he does for his upcoming flicks Zanjeer and Yevadu. But ahead of his birthday on March 27, he has taken a break to throw a big Badshah style bash for his fans.
'Usually, all my birthdays are packed with my shooting schedules. But this time we wanted to make it grand. So, on the 27th evening, we are holding a special event at the Shilpakala Vedika, where we are expecting over 2000 people,' he told in a free-wheeling chat.
His wife Upasana Kamineni has already gifted him his favourite Thailand breed Jack Russel dog. 'We are both pet lovers and she gave me my favourite breed as an advance birthday gift,' he revealed.
Ram Charan is not deterred by the recent death of a fan at Jr NTR's audio launch function in the city. 'Our fans are our strength. They keep us going and it is our duty to take care of them during such incidents.
What happened at the Badshah audio launch was very unfortunate, but we cannot blame the producers or the police and this happened outside the venue. So, the event management company should be blamed.
For my wedding, we had about 15000 guests, but no such incidents happened. We should cooperate with the police on this and distribute only the number of passes a venue can accommodate.
For the birthday event that we are organising, we have given all the passes to the police, who will then print their hologram on it. And people with these passes will be allowed,' Ram Charan said.
And guess what's Charan's gift to his fans this birthday? 'We are launching the teasers of both my upcoming films Zanjeer and Yevadu,' he said. Both the movies will be released this summer.
'We are trying this new concept and are not sure how this is going to work. We will release both the movies within a gap of 4-5 weeks. This is definitely a risk that we are taking, so we have to see how this works,' he said.
The Agneepath offer
Working on two different projects at the same time, Charan definitely seems to be in a happy space. On one side there is the multi-starrer Yevadu with Allu Arjun and Kaajal Aggarwal while on the other, is the bilingual Zanjeer with Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt.
'Yevadu is a break from my usual movies. It's a thriller and a mainstream commercial film. It does not start off with a usual fight scene or a song. It has a refreshing twist and Bunny (Allu Arjun) has a very important segment in the movie that lasts for 15 minutes and it is not a negative role,' he revealed.
Zanjeer, his first Bollywood film, has landed in controversies. But looks like none of those will affect the release of the film. Both the versions of the film were shot in a time span of 75 days.
'The case is in the Bombay High Court, the producers have paid the royalty in the court, now it is left for the court to decide. But, that will not stall the release of the movie,' Ram Charan clarified.
Adding a bit about his co-star Priyanka Chopra, he said, 'She worked really hard for this and she would stay back after shooting and learn Telugu dialogues for the next day and then leave.'
Though he is experimenting with Bollywood, Charan is still rooted in Tollywood. 'I will do two Telugu movies every year and if any Hindi script interests me, I will use the remaining time for it.
Though Bollywood is ahead of us in planning and execution, somehow they still do not catch emotions, the way we do in our films,' he opined. One more surprising fact is that Charan was asked to play the lead in Telugu remake of Agneepath.
'Karan asked me to do Agneepath. But, I did not want to do it as father-and-revenge is not a new subject down south. I wanted to be honest with Karan Johar and which is why we did not go ahead with the project. But we have plans to do movie together,' he revealed.
And what can be more exciting than Big B himself acting in Zanjeer. 'He has been very supportive and extremely positive about this. We are yet to shoot his bit for the film. I am very excited about it.'
Married but feel unmarried
'Though it has been a while, I still do not feel like I am married, as I am so busy with work, I hardly get to spend time with Upasana. Once I wrap up both the movies, we are planning to go somewhere by June,' Charan said and added, 'Even she cannot move to Mumbai with me as she is also working here.
My mom and Upasana are spending a lot of time together and talk about how I don't spend time with them.' Not just his family, even his friends from here call Upasana to complain about him. 'Rana and others call my wife and tell her 'Koncham maripoyadu',' he laughed.
May campaign for dad
'I am extremely proud of him. After he has become the Union Minister of State for Tourism, he has been working very hard to elevate that segment of the country. People love him and I am sure he will take things to another level,' Charan said.
Will we see him campaigning for his father? 'My dad usually is not the kind who would disturb anyone's space. But if he asks me I will never say no to anything,' he replied.
Asked if he has been able to fill his father's shoes, 'Nobody can fill the vacuum he has left in the industry. It is just out of our reach.' Charan is in talks with Koratala Siva for his upcoming film.
'Nothing has been finalised yet, but we will soon announce something.' After Zanjeer and Yevadu, he has Allu Arvind's project, after which he will work on Trivikram's directorial venture.
