Charan was first nervous to do Zanjeer The first look of Ram Charan's upcoming film Thoofan, which is the Telugu version of Apoorva Lakhia's Zanjeer, was launched yesterday in Hyderabad. Priyanka Chopra has played the lead role in the film and it also stars Srihari, Prakash Raj, Thanikella Bharani and Mahie Gill in important roles.
Chiranjeevi, who launched the teaser, was all praises for the entire team of the film. 'It took me close to 13 years to make my debut in Hindi, but my son Charan has managed to do it in less than half that time.
I am both jealous and proud of him. I was quite impressed with Apoorva Lakhia's meticulous planning while making the film and I have no doubt that Thoofan is going to be a huge hit.
Charan is gone to the next level as an actor. I must also thank Srihari who immediately agreed to act in this film at the last moment,' Chiranjeevi said.
Talking about the film, Ram Charan recalled how nervous he was to say yes to the film. 'When Apoorva Lakhia approached me initially with the script, I refused to do it since the pressure of stepping into Amitabh Bachchan's shoes was too much to handle; however, Apoorva Lakhia was adamant. Four months later, he approached me again and I was quite impressed with the script.
That's when my father said, 'Don't do it if you don't like the story, but don't back out due to fear. I think I have given my best shot and the entire team has worked really hard for the film,' Ram Charan confessed.
When asked if he was trying to redefine the concept of angry young man for today's age, Apoorva Lakhia said, 'Although the film has been adapted to modern sensibilities, the essence has been retained.
I grew up watching Zanjeer and a film like that will stay in my mind forever. There's plenty of action in the new version, although the story is still the same.
It's more of a tribute to Amitabh Bachchan and I don't think we are trying to redefine the concept of angry young man in cinema.' Meet Bros, Chirantan Bhatt, Anand Raaj Anand have scored the music.
