Charan scared of Sanjay Dutt Its mega power star Ram Charan's birthday today and the actor, who had a solo release last year followed by a Sankranthi release this year, will have two of his movies, 'Toofan' ('Zanjeer' in Hindi) and 'Yevadu', release in a span of four to five weeks and he's at cross roads wondering if the scenario will be good or bad.
'I ideally like to maintain a gap of four to six months between my films, but before summer ends, 'Toofan' and 'Yevadu', will be hitting the screens.
In days to come, I will let you know which among the two will arrive first,' he says and adds, 'Since 'Toofan' is a bilingual, we are planning to release both the Hindi and Telugu versions on the same day. It's difficult to get theatres, as other Bollywood biggies are lined up. However, we are working for a parallel release.'
In Mumbai, he has already made friends and old friends like Salman Khan are supportive of his B-town launchpad. 'I know him for the past 10 years. Salman and dad used to shoot for a cola ad simultaneously.
Whenever I land in Mumbai, I'm supposed to call him, if not he gets angry. I shared the script of 'Zanjeer' to him and he has given his inputs too,' informs Charan.
While Charan is pinning hopes on 'Zanjeer', the story about a young and honest police officer, reports of him meeting director/producer Karan Johar gained importance in recent times. Charan indicates that he may work with KJo in the near future.
'He wanted me to do the Telugu remake of Hrithik- starrer 'Agneepath'. I declined because it was a story about a son who avenges his father's death and was on the similar lines of what I did in 'Racha' except for the set-up. I told him that he is my friend and he should give me something which leaves an 'impact'.'
While actor Sri Hari is reprising the iconic Pran's role in 'Toofan', Sanjay Dutt will be seen in the same role in 'Zanjeer'. Sharing space with Dutt at first was 'scary', says Charan.
'I was scared looking at an artist of his calibre, fighting with him and uttering dialogues to him, but what a humble man he turned out to be! I learned how to make a new co-star comfortable from him.
Being a hero himself, he could have overshadowed me in the film by going to writers, but it was the other way around- he was keen on my character getting elevated.
Quiz him about his birthday plans? 'I don't plan anything. Dad's birthdays were celebrated with much pomp and show by fans. Since he is in a different zone now, fans made their plans to celebrate my birthday.
I cancelled my Mumbai trip to be in town for the birthday. A gathering is planned by fans in Hyderabad. The event will also see 'Yevadu' teaser released.'
Speaking about 'Yevadu', he terms it as a 'dark thriller'. 'It will be a path-breaking film. How different the film is, will be established with the very first sequence,' he assures.
Vouching for his dad's comeback on the silver screen, Charan says that his dad's 150th project, which he will produce, is definitely on. 'Everybody is aware of the fact that he is tied down with politics.
We are listening to scripts every three months. We've locked on three subjects and will take a final call on the best one. May be next year we can see him donning the grease paint again,' he smiles.
