Venky back in 'action' Just a day before heading to Bengaluru for a long shooting schedule of his new film, a remake of Bollywood hit, 'Bol Bachchan', superstar Venkatesh met scribes on Holi to speak about his latest film, 'Shadow' which will hit the screens on Ugadi, next month. Donning his new look, complete with a long curly moustache, Venky, as usual, was in a jovial mood.
Taking the opportunity to greet everyone on the occasion, Venky remembered his Holi days. 'When I was in Chennai I used to indulge in heavy Holi. Along with my friends I used to knock the doors of other friends who hesitated to be coloured,' he shares.
When asked whether he played Holi? 'Roju rangulu poosukuntunnanu (I apply grease paint everyday). Where is the need for another Holi? Moreover, it becomes difficult for the make-up man if the colour persists on the face.'
Speaking about the reasons that made him to accept 'Shadow', he says he was waiting for a mass subject like 'Shadow' since a long time. 'I was keen on a mass film which sets the tempo from the beginning.
When Meher Ramesh narrated the story, it had the ingredients that I was looking for. He was keen on presenting me in a different way, which was an add-on.'
Revealing a bit more about the film, he terms it as a revenge backdrop story with required emotions. 'It's a wholesome entertainer with a mix of mother and sister sentiment interlaced with action.'
The actor's look has received praise from all sections, but he indicates that the look is not throughout the film. 'Bearded look is close to 40 minutes in the film and one can see the softer Venky in the remaining portions,' he assures.
'I read somewhere that I play a don in the film. No it's not. The film is nowhere related to mafia backdrop.'
With the film's promos boasting of high-octane action, Venky informs that there are stunts that he had never done before. 'I did some risky stunts; risky according to my standards,' he adds mischievously.
'We were keen on not indulging in gory action. It is action which will be pleasing to the eye,' he confirms.
The film happens to be Venky's most expensive flick till date. Accepting the reports, he says, 'The budget exceeded a limit, but it should be fine. It's done and dusted so there's no point pondering about it.'
Quiz about why he is not on Twitter? 'I tried to get away from the world sometime back and I don't want to get into it again through Twitter,' he smiles.
Happy with the way the Telugu script of 'Bol Bachchan' has shaped up, he shares, 'I'm glad that Ram has got a meaty role. It will be a full-length entertainer.
I've shown 'Bol Bachchan' to Arjun (son) and my other family members and everybody loved it. Some even went to the extent of watching it four times. Anjali is playing the lead opposite me while Shazahn Padamsee will romance Ram. Jayaprakash Reddy's role came out very well.'
Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start early next week, and already some filmmakers are crying foul over cricket eating into their films revenue, but Venky feels otherwise.
'IPL has its own audience and films too have their own. The first season of IPL did affect film's business, but at the end of the day it's a business like films. There is scope for both to shine,' he says.
An avid cricket fan, he has his calendar full with IPL matches of his favourite teams including Sunrisers, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils.
'This time I will be shooting in Bengaluru for a major part of next month. I am wondering how to adjust my calendar. However, I will be there in the stadium showing my solidarity to all of them ' probably a few matches of each should do well,' he signs off on a parting note.
