Gopichand speaks on Sahasam The reclusive combination of actor Gopichand and director Chandrasekhar Yeleti, who have re-united after 'Okkadunnadu' for 'Saahasam', an adventurous drama, along with producers BVSN Prasad and B Bapineedu, had little to speak about the movie before Gopi, with able assistance from his director, took it on themselves to share interesting anecdotes about it.
Gopichand explaining his long absence of more than a year from the silver screen, Gopi who is set to walk down the aisle on May 12 said, 'I never had this gap earlier. I liked the 'Sahasam' point when Chandu narrated, but he had his apprehensions about the budget. Luckily, Prasad garu was on board as he liked the subject.'
Gopi opined that Chandu treaded a new path that is usually not associated with Telugu films. 'It will be a nouveau feeling to the audience. We need a hit badly. Very badly,' he smiled. He also cleared the air about the film's delay. 'It was due to the meticulous detailing that the film required. We did not want to take it easy.'
While Chandrasekhar opened the dais for questions, the macho-star, who is playing a security guard in the flick, took the opportunity to speak about the one-month long schedule that took place in Ladakh.
'The story required a setting in Pakistan, but it was possible to shoot there. The place that looked closest to Pakistan was Ladakh. But it was too hot to handle and add to it, the lack of oxygen made it worse,' he smiled further, 'We've shot the Buzkashi sequence in Ladakh and that wasn't a cakewalk. My knees went for a ride along with the horse.'
Chandrasekhar Yeleti with out-of-the-box films like 'Aithe' and 'Prayanam' to his credit said that it's been a while since Tollywood explored adventurous genres. 'It's been more than 15 years since a film on the lines of 'Sahasam' arrived at the cinema halls. The story starts off during the partition time of 1947. It unfolds in the contemporary times,' he revealed.
Known to make films inspired from real happenings, this story too was stimulated from the news that he read. 'I had woven fictional elements after reading a news item. It's a personal story of Gopichand's journey to the treasure which is rightfully his.'
When asked about why he failed to make a film after his 2009 romantic drama 'Prayanam', he asserted, 'I was to start a new project immediately after it, but somehow it failed to materialise. 'Sahasam' script took long time and the shooting too spanned over a year.'
Also-starring Punjabi kudi Taapsee Pannu and Bollywood baddie Shakti Kapoor in the lead roles, the film is expected to hit the screens this month-end or early next month.
