Singam II gets ready to roar

Singam raked in quite the following when it released in 2010. Besides being dubbed in Telugu as Yamudu, the film was also remade in Hindi under the same name, starring Ajay Devgn and Kajal Agarwal. This year, it's back with a sequel ' Singam II, and is being dubbed in Telugu as Singam: Yamudu II.

Tamil actor Suriya will reprise his role as ACP Durai Singam while actress Anushka Shetty also makes a comeback as the heroine. Hansika Motwani also joins the cast which includes veteran Nassar.

Directed by Hari and produced by S Lakshman Kumar, the sequel continues from where Singam ended. In the city on Wednesday to launch his film, actor Suriya gave away a few details.

'The movie starts from where Yamudu ended, on a surveillance mission in Durai Singam's village. It is fast paced and the climax starts a little before the interval. There are four main antagonists and the films has many action sequences.'

Calling it 'double the entertainment', the actor promised the film would not be a disappointment.

The movie has been shot at multiple locations including Kerala, Chennai and Hyderabad in India, besides shooting a few sequences in South Africa and Malaysia. 'We also shot mid-sea near South Africa for some scenes and it was very interesting,' Suriya shared.

Given it's success in the past, Suriya is buoyed about the success of the sequel as well. 'We had a wonderful time with Singam and we are very confident that it will surpass Yamudu.'

The actor was joined by his co-stars Anushka Shetty and Nassar at the launch. Echoing his excitement was actor Anushka, who said, 'Everyone knows how huge a hit Yamudu was in all the languages it was made in. The second part only gets better. The script is very gripping and fast-paced.'

The feeling seemed to be mutual as the actors waxed eloquent on each other. While Anushka complimented Suriya to be an all-rounder and a great performer, Nassar stated that Singam was through and through a Suriya film. Suriya however, credited director Hari for all the good work.

'Hari is a pillar of strength for me. He worked so hard on this picture and my respect for him has only increased.' Director Hari for his part, was missing from the event as he was busy wrapping up the post production work.

Music for the film has been composed by Devi Sri Prasad and an audio launch will take place on June 11. As for the film, Singam: Yamudu II is getting set to release this June 28.
