The tragic side of showbiz

The ride to fame, money and accolades isn't easy. It comes with a lot of hard work. The euphoria of their movies making it big takes them to unimaginable heights and one flop they are in the doldrums.

A Friday can make or break them. Few actors have managed to reconcile to the fact that their time is over and have faded from public memory and lead quiet lives in hill stations or settle abroad. But others wilt under pressure and throw in the towel. Here is a list of few actors who threw it all away, some at the peak of their careers.

JIAH KHAN 1988 2013 Actress Nafisa Khan popularly known as Jiah Khan committed suicide at her Juhu resi dence recently. The 25-year-old actor is learnt to have hung herself inside the house.

Jiah was brought up in England and had shifted to Mumbai with her mother Rabiya recently. 'She had been depressed for some time due to personal issues, but was keen on returning to acting soon. She was also meeting filmmakers regarding projects,' sources close to the actress said.

Jiah made her debut opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Ram Gopal Varma's Nishabd. She also acted opposite Aamir Khan in Ghajini and Akshay Kumar in Houseful. It is said that she was unhappy as she was not getting enough roles.

Southern actress Vijayalakshmi, popularly known as Silk Smitha, committed suicide by consuming poison in 1996. Silk Smitha was trying her luck by turning producer after a successful stint in front of the camera by acting in over 450 films for 17 years.

Things did not fall in place for her and she took the drastic step. Failed romance, depression and alcoholism were the other reasons cited for her premature death. The life story of yesteryear actress was well narrated in the movie `Dirty Picture' in 2011.

Bollywood has in the past witnessed some shocking tragedies including the death of young and vivacious Divya Bharti at the age of 19 in 1993, after she allegedly fell off the fifth floor of a building.

Mystery still shrouds her death and it remains unclear whether she was pushed to death or she was inebriated and lost her balance. Divya Bharti had made an impact in Bollywood in her brief career with films like Vishwatma, Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana and others.

Monal, an aspiring actress, was endowed with good looks and all possible traits to be a part of the mainstream film industry. She was the sister of the then south siren Simran.

And her film Badri opposite to Vijay was a blockbuster hit. But none of these could save her life, she was found hanging in an apartment in 2001. Her sister accused choreographer Prasanna Sujith as the reason. She was the most happening star at that time, in both Tamil and Telugu cinema. She committed suicide by consuming sleeping pills along with her boyfriend Siddharth Reddy (who survived at hospital).

Prathyusha's Mom alleges that her daughter was raped and killed and fighting the case ever since. The sad part here is that she has films aplenty in her kitty.

After the release of 'Premikula Roju' (Telugu), Kunal Singh became heart throb in not one but three industries as his film was dubbed in Hindi too. Sadly, the industry has seen very less of him in subsequent projects.

The actor was found hanging at his Mumbai apartment C in 2008. His father had alleged that Kunal had been murdered and it wasn't a suicide. Every anchor working in small screen dreams of making it to the silver screen, not many were lucky in this regard.

Bhargavi was the one who captured eyeballs with her performance of a village belle in `Astha Chamma'. She has a promising career ahead but she like many others before her committed suicide along with her boy friend.

One of the most glamorous starlets of her time, Parveen Babi, died a lonely death in 2005 at her flat in Mumbai. Her death came to light only after her residential society secretary alerted the police that she had not picked up milk and newspapers from her doorstep for three days.

In her case also, it was not clear whether she committed suicide or died a natural death. 15-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson, Paris attempted to take her life on Wednesday after being told she would not be able to go to the 'Dope Show' hit maker's concert with Alice Cooper on the next day.

Apparently Paris 'flipped out' and screamed at the relative who stopped her seeing the goth rocker, and it is claimed she then locked herself in her bedroom and cut her arm before leaving a note and ringing a suicide hotline.
