Shruti elated over Balupu success 'I've never had back-to-back hits and `Balupu's success means a lot to me,' says an excited Shruti Haasan who is everywhere these days. With multiple projects in Telugu and in Hindi, the hot and happening actress is over the moon as `Balupu' is faring well at the ticket windows. In a chat-a-thon, she attributes the film's success to `Gopichand Malineni's team and God'.
It was her `Gabbar Singh' director Harish Shankar who proposed her name to Gopichand. 'I'm a casual and fun-loving girl in real life whereas in `Gabbar Singh,' Harish portrayed me as a village belle who meets her family demands.
Harish time and again told me that I'm a complete contrast in real life. He evenn went to the extent of labeling me a joker. When Gopi was searching for a suitable lead for `Balupu', Harish briefed him about my antics on `Gabbar Singh' sets. In that sense, Harish is a part of my consecutive hits.'
Comedy is a tough genre to pull off and that too for a girl who is relatively new to the industry, but the light-eyed beauty who is receiving accolades for her comedy timing in `Balupu' feels that `life has lots of comedy'.
'There was enormous energy on the sets as Ravi Teja and Brahmanandam garu constantly pushed the envelope. No scene is the same and I was a witness to Brahmanandam garu approaching each scene differently. It was a learning curve for me,' she remembers.
When most heroines play it safe in their early career by opting for glam roles, Shruti, who believes in trying her hands at `different characters and breaking the stereotype', went the said way, in Nikhil Advani's `DDay'. She played the role of sex worker Suraiya in the film with a scar on her face. 'She has seen a tough life and the scar is an integral part of her life.
It is a sensuous role, not a bold one.' Not the one who is intimidated by the larger-thanlife persona of her superstar Dad Kamal Haasan, she says he is Kamal, the father at home.
'I find it funny when people compare me to Dad and Mom as they've been in the industry for decades,' she maintains and adds, ''I'm like any other girl who is trying to make her own career.
Having said that both my parents have been extremely encouraging and asked me to be bold and honest. I'm following it. What Dad is today is because he followed his heart.'
With work taking her to Mumbai, Hyderabad and numerous outdoor schedules (both India and abroad), the pretty lass is not the one to complain.
'I don't want to do anything other than work. I'm a workaholic. When not working, I sleep or cook. Right now, I don't even have the time to play with my music band,' she smiles.
While she is finding it difficult to manage time to promote her two B-town releases, `Ramaiya Vastavaiya' and `D 'Day', which are scheduled to hit the screens on the same day-July 19, the actress has `Yevadu' and Ramayya Vastavayya' in Telugu up next.
Though she is guarded about her role in the NTR-starrer, she gives a peek into her role in `Yevadu'. 'It's a homely, fun, naughty, and at the same time, a mature character. Charan is one of my nicest co-stars till now,' she signs off.
