Review: Sahasam - a thrilling adventure Sahasam, starring Gopichand, Taapsee and Shakti Kapoor, is an action adventure film which follows the life of one common man who goes on an epic journey to reclaim his ancestral property.
Directed by Chandrasekhar Yeleti, the film is clearly a cut above the rest when it comes to narrating a story which doesn't meander too much and in the process, we are taken for a thrilling ride which spans from bylanes of Hyderabad to Peshawar.
Gopichand stars as Gautham, a security guard, who dreams of becoming rich. He tries all the tricks in the book including astrology, lottery to find the elusive luck, but all his attempts go in vain.
One fine day, he comes across a book written by his late grandfather, who used to be a diamond merchant in pre-independence era.
After reading the book, Gopichand decides to reclaim his ancestral property and to achieve his goal, he joins Srinidhi (Taapsee), a devout young girl, who believes that the world is going to end soon because of our sins. The rest of the story is about what Gautham and Srinidhi go through to find the treasure.
The end is hardly ever important in an action adventure film which dabbles with a treasure hunt. You know that they'll find the treasure in the end no matter what happens and it all boils down to how well the story is narrated till that happens.
This is precisely where Chandrasekhar Yeleti gets it right. The motive behind why each of the characters do what they do in the film is established quite well and kudos to the entire technical team whose role cannot be ignored in a film like this.
The streets of Hyderabad magically transform to Peshawar, the azure skies and barren, rugged peaks of Ladakh are passed off as stunning landscapes in Pakistan and Chandrasekhar Yeleti pays great attention to detail in his film.
Of course, there are plenty of cinematic liberties and the grand finale is a little underwhelming, but that hardly takes away all the good work done by the team till that point. The background score by Sri is another high point of the film.
Gopichand is incredible as a security guard and it's a tailor-made role for him, whereas Taapsee does a good job as a devout young girl.
Sahasam is the kind of film which doesn't have too many surprises, but this is precisely where Chandrasekhar Yeleti and his team mesmerises you with their craft. The film is far from perfect, but rarely does a film comes by which sticks to what it wants to say.
