SHRC moved for case against Ram Charan City police acted under extreme political pressure to hide facts regarding the May 5 street brawl in Banjara Hills, in which Ramcharan Tej, actor and son of Union minister Chiranjeevi, and the minister's security guards roughed up two techies, apparently for not giving way to them at a traffic signal, petitioner and advocate Syed A Saleem has said.
Saleem, in a letter to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), on Saturday, urged the commission to direct the police to book Ramcharan Tej and the minister's guards.
The report filed by the city police was incomplete and that they never even verified the photographs and videos available with them, he said. He was responding to the report filed before the SHRC by Banjara Hills assistant commissioner of police.
He requested the SHRC to instruct the city police to register cases against Ramcharan and Chiranjeevi's security guards under sections 357, 325, 160, 506, 120(8) and sec 341 of IPC.
The petitioner said Ramcharan taking the help of Chiranjeevi's guards was punishable under the law. 'The act of the security personnel, who are public servants meant to protect the life of the Union minister, attracts provisions of various sections of IPC,' he said.
Police intentionally suppressed the facts and filed a mechanical report before the commission, he said. 'Police failed even to seek an explanation from Chiranjeevi or call the security personnel involved,' he stated.
'It is clear that Banjara Hills police filed the report under extreme political pressure. Except mentioning that the incident took place on May 5, there is nothing special in their report,' he said.
