Tollywood more keen on unique film titles

A lot of brainstorming is done while deciding on a title as many of the film-makers believe that the impact it creates at box-office is unique. Usually, there is a thumb rule in Tollywood that the title should be exceptional yet powerful and ought to be finalized keeping in view the actor's star power.

But it seems Tollywood film-makers are making attempts to capture the essence of the movie in their titles and are putting an end to the tried and tested names. In fact, they are coming up with titles according to their perspective as per the subject.

Of late, film-makers have been showing fascination towards urban audience and are experimenting with soft titles for their films. In recent times, most of the film titles are being named in an unconventional yet trendy way. Also there is a strong inclination on the part of film-makers to pick the opening lines of popular songs as movietitles.

Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu who carved a niche for himself acting in slick action entertainers that showcase heroism to the hilt has broken the jinx of powerful titles with his recent movie Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu.

The film's title is very homely and there's a novelty value attached to it. Despite lacking dynamism in the title unlike the actor's previous films like Athadu, Pokiri, Sainikudu and Dookudu which were formulaic films with ample commercial elements, the movie had been lapped up by the audience.

After featuring in films Badri, Johnny, Gudumba Shankar, Annavaram and Gabbar Singh that reflected his powerful persona, power star Pawan Kalyan who is known for his mass appeal, eccentric mannerisms and wit is soon arriving with Attarintiki Daaredi.

Though the title appears to be unconventional, it has triggered a huge craze among the audience. Grapevine is that the film is all about family values and re-union.

'We decided on the title after contemplating on the script. The title suited the script we had in mind. When we popped the idea to Pawan, he too was okay with it as he liked the script,' says BVSN Prasad, the producer of Attarintiki Daaredi.

NTR Jr who commands huge following among masses has tried out different powerful titles like Aadi, Simhadri, Samba, Narasimhudu and Oosaravelli in the past. But it seems the actor who is trying to do something new from the last few years is working on a new film titled Ramayya Vastavayya.

Though the title lacks punch, the audience connected to it instantly as it includes the name of the actor. Going by the title, one can conclude that the actor will rescue his people from the evil characters in the film.

Actor Nithiin who worked relentlessly to score a hit till recently seems to have shed his inhibitions on the titles of his films.

The actor has realized the significance of the title being on par with the script and his recent films Ishq and Gundejaari Gallanthayyinde (named after a popular song from Gabbar Singh) further strengthens the opinion.

Nithiin's upcoming film Courier Boy Kalyan is once again a soft title. The film is tipped to be a rom-com and interspersed with action.
