Vinayak mulls sequel to Adhurs After giving a hit to Ram Charan in Nayak, director VV Vinayak took some time off before starting his next project. He says he is looking forward to his project with Bellamkonda Suresh, in an interview.
Director VV Vinayak is known for his action flicks. Amidst rumours of his joining politics, he says his current priority remains film-making Excerpts from an interview:
You don't have a film on the floors. Why have you taken such a long gap post Naayak?
I am not in a hurry to direct films but what I direct has to be a hit film. Currently, I am working for Bellamkonda Suresh's new movie that marks the debut of his son Srinivas as the hero. Initially, we considered two scripts, but we were not satisfied with them. So, we are taking time in order to deliver quality output.
Is the story finalized now?
Yes, we are going to begin the shoot from October 20. I will reveal all the details shortly.
Are you feeling the added responsibility of directing a debutant?
Definitely! It was Bellamkonda Suresh who introduced me as a director with Aadi. He never treated me like a debutant and gave me all the freedom during the shoot. Coming to this film, we don't want to take a chance and commit any mistake as it is Srinivas' first film. We are taking utmost care in every aspect.
Who will be the leading lady of the film?
Samantha is playing the leading lady. Devi Sri Prasad is scoring the music and we are planning to start the shoot with a song.
Is Tamanna playing the second lead in the movie?
No! Had we gone in for the earlier script, she would have been part of the project.
What is the budget of the film?
It's a high budget film like my previous ones. Producer Bellamkonda garu doesn't want to compromise on anything.
Don't you think it's a risk to pump in a lot of money for a debutant hero's film?
We are confident about the story and I have done a couple of trial shoots on Sai Srinivas. He is a very hardworking guy and perfectly suits the role of hero.
What is the genre of the film?
It's an action-oriented love story laced with adequate entertainment. The songs are also good. The hero has a goal and how he achieves it is the crux of the film.
Are you going to direct films in other languages?
In the past, I got a couple of offers from Bollywood, but due to my commitments I didn't do them. Right now my focus is only on Tollywood.
Why are you not trying different genres like your contemporaries?
It's not like I'm not trying. I am afraid of experiments as producers invest crores of rupees on a project. We first conceive one thing and later it comes out as something completely different.
You had directed Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna and Venkatesh. When are you going to direct Nagarjuna?'
I was supposed to work with Nagarjuna, but things didn't materialize. I want to work with all the actors.
When can we expect a rom-com from you?
I am planning to do it in the next year with newcomers.
Directors are turning producers these days. What about you?
A lot of young people come to me and narrate their stories and ask for my feedback. I treat Bellamkonda Suresh, Dil Raju and Nallamalapu Bujji's banners as my home productions. So I don't think I will turn producer.
You are good at directing action films, so personally what kind of films do you like?
I enjoy all kinds of cinema. Personally, I like Mani Ratnam's films.
Can we expect a Mani Ratnam kind of a film from you?
Only time will provide the answer. I never thought that I would direct action films. So who knows?
Is it true that you are sensitive?
Yes, my father used to scold me on this aspect. I cannot accept failure! Of course everyone has their own apprehensions or perceptions.
There are rumours that you will be joining politics very soon'
Our family is active in politics. My father, brother and I are acquainted with a lot of politicians. I am not interested now, but I don't know what future holds for me.
Are you going to campaign for any party?
No.
You have the rare distinction of having directed Chiranjeevi-Ram Charan, Balakrishna-NTR Jr. Will you continue that in future?
I don't plan anything, what has happened so far is just a coincidence. I may do it in the future too.
Is it true that you are going to direct Chiranjeevi's 150th film?
Right now, Chiranjeevi garu is not in a mood to act in films. If he is willing to act then I am ready to direct.
Do you feel that there is something you haven't achieved yet?
By god's grace, I am happy for what I am now. I never dreamt of this career. I want to thank everyone who supported me all these years.
Do you have any plans of directing sequels to your films?
NTR Jr is asking me to do a sequel for Adhurs. We discuss about it quite often and if we find the right script we will do it.
