Nenokkadine makers owe 1.2 Cr to I-T Dept HYDERABAD: The Mahesh Babu-starrer 1 Nenokkadine producers ran into rough weather when the income tax department sleuths knocked on the doors of its producers.
Sources said teams from the Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) wing of the I-T department carried out searches at '14 reels' office of the producers here.
The producers, Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta and Anil Sunkara, are understood to have admitted non-payment of TDS to the tune of `1.2 crore but assured the officials that they would pay up the amount at the earliest. The admission came after the officials scrutinised several documents in the office.
'We received a tip off that the producers paid huge amounts to the artistes, technicians and others associated with the movie but did not pay TDS,' the sources said. After going through the records, the producers reportedly admitted that they were supposed to pay TDS to the tune of `1.2 crore.
Sources said that the TDS wing of the I-T department has become very active as this is yielding results of late. Directed by Sukumar, '1 Nenokkadine' is a stylish action thriller with Mahesh Babu playing the lead role. The star will appear in the role of a rockstar in the film.
'1 Nenokkadine' also marks the debut of model-turned-actress Kriti Sanon. The film also has Nassar, Anu Haasan, Sayaji Shinde and Pradeep Rawat in pivotal roles. Though not much is known about the storyline, it is said to be loosely based on the lines of Hollywood film 'Bourne Identity.'
Sources said that a few distributors present at the office were also questioned. 'This inspection by the TDS has been going on. Earlier, a similar inspection was done in the office of the makers of Pawan Kalyan starrer ''Aattarintiki Daredi.'
Going by the buzz in Tollywood, the rights of the Mahesh Babu film were acquired by Eros International for a whopping `72 crore. '1 Nenokkadine'' is going to release in 100 single screens and all the multiplexes in Hyderabad. They are targeting 600 shows in Hyderabad on the first day.
