TV actress dupes artistes of Rs 10 cr In a shocking incident, a TV actress, Vijaya Rani, absconded after duping her fellow artistes of Rs 10 crore, the police said. The victims filed a complaint against Vijaya Rani in the Central Crime Station (CCS).
The actress, who operated a chit fund, wound up the operations leaving investors in the lurch. The total amount allegedly embezzled was estimated to be around Rs 10 crore, police stated. The fraud came to light when the distressed investors lodged a complaint with the CCS alleging that Rani was missing for the last one week.
'Rani was operating chits for the past couple of years and gained the confidence of investors by paying timely interest. She enjoyed an extravagant lifestyle of expensive cars and clothes with the swindled amount.
She started her acting career by doing small roles in TV serials,' said Pala Raju, DCP, Detective Department, Hyderabad. Based on a complaint lodged by investors, cases under the provisions of AP Chit Fund Act and Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC were registered against her.
