Chairperson Bindra briefed Suresh Gopi on its operations, which handle crude oil imports for refineries in the hinterland. The Chairperson also outlined the port's overall cargo profile, key export and import operations, and the steps being taken to modernize and mechanize cargo handling.
The briefing covered VPA's push toward automation, improved turnaround times, and capacity augmentation projects. Special emphasis was placed on the green initiatives adopted by the port, including shore power for vessels, dust suppression systems, plantation drives, and measures to reduce the carbon footprint of port activities.
Suresh Gopi appreciated the VPA team for the developmental and modernisation activities underway. He noted that Visakhapatnam Port plays a critical role in the energy and trade ecosystem of the east coast and commended its efforts to balance growth with environmental responsibility.
Heads of Departments and senior officials of VPA participated in the programme and interacted with the Minister on upcoming projects and operational challenges.
According to a release issued by VPA secretary M Sankar Babu on Monday, the visit underscored the Centre's focus on strengthening port-led development and enhancing logistics efficiency along India's coastline.
